Today in Geneva, the 119th session of the World Health Organization's Executive Board opened to begin the process of electing the next Director-General.
The chairman of the Executive Board, Dr Fernando Antezana Araníbar opened the session to a full house and declared that the 34 board members would have "much important work ahead."
The Executive Board is composed of 34 individuals technically qualified in the field of health, each one designated by a Member State elected to do so by the World Health Assembly. Member States are elected for three-year terms.
