122nd WHO Executive Board session

The WHO Executive Board opened its 122nd session on 21 January 2008 on an optimistic note, with a report from Director-General Dr Margaret Chan highlighting progress in many areas of public health.


The Executive Board is composed of 34 individuals technically qualified in the field of health. They are designated by Member States and serve three-year terms.


In his opening remarks, Chairman Dr Balaji Sadasivan from Singapore welcomed nine new members to the Executive Board.

Dr D. Wright from the United States of America at the 122nd session of the Executive Board.


WHO Director General Dr Margaret Chan congratulated Dr Mirta Roses Periago following her reappointment as Regional Director for the Americas. The WHO Region of the Americas comprises 35 countries.
