A new award was given in the memory of the late WHO Director-General Dr LEE Jong-wook. Presenting the first Dr LEE Jong-wook Memorial Prize for Public Health is Dr Park Jong-wha, President of the Korean Foundation for International Health Care.
Dr Tengiz Tsertsvadeze, Director-General of the Infectious Diseases, AIDS and Clinical Immunology Research Center in Georgia, receives the first Dr LEE Jong-wook Memorial Prize for Public Health, in the presence of WHO Director-General Dr Margaret Chan and World Health Assembly President Mr Nimal Siripala De Silva. The Center has done pioneering work in the region on AIDS and viral hepatitis, notably in research, treatment, prevention and control.
