WHO welcomes new World Bank strategy on health, nutrition and population

3 May 2007

The World Health Organization (WHO) welcomes the new Health, Nutrition and Population Strategy launched by the World Bank. The strategy, formally approved by the Bank's Executive Board, represents a major step forward in supporting poor countries to strengthen their health systems, improve the health services available to people and reduce poverty.

"This new strategy is an important tool in the fight against poor health care and poverty," said Dr Anders Nordström, WHO Assistant Director-General for Health Systems and Services. "We now look forward to working with our colleagues at the Bank and in countries to implement the strategy."
