Lunch time symposium: WHO call for innovative technologies which address global health concerns

A lunch time seminar was held at the Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering World Congress in Munich 11, September 2009 to launch the call for innovative technologies that address global health concerns. The exiting event drew more than 150 delegates including the presidents of the International Union of Engineering Sciences in Medicine (IUPESM), the International Federation for Medical and Biomedical Engineering (IFMBE), distinguished university faculty members, members from ministries of health, doctors, researchers and students.

Professor Uvo Hoelsher (Muenster University of Applied Sciences, Center for Medical Engineering and Ergonomics, Germany) chaired the session and presentations were made by Bjorn Fahlgren (WHO), Ahdam Ismail (WHO/EMRO) and Rexford Widmer (representing the Advanced Medical Technology Association).

Dr Steffen Groth announced the launch of the call to the public and asked participants to join WHO in its commitment to make available appropriate health technologies in order to respond to the health care needs of the world. He encouraged participation and cooperation as a means to effect change.
