The brochures provide important background information on the treatment of pain in children that can be helpful for ensuring adequate access to pain treatment. The brochures are not a substitute for the more detailed information contained in the guidelines document. Health-care professionals should read the guidelines document if possible.
For more detailed information and additional references we refer to the formal guidelines document. In case of any discrepancy between the brochures and the guidelines document, the guidelines document should be the reference.

A print version of the package will be available in early June 2012 entitled Persisting Pain in Children Package. Online orders can be placed at WHO Bookshop. The package will contain, in addition to the items mentioned above, four tools to enhance the implementation of the guidelines:

  • A dosing card
  • A Pain Scale for children (Faces Pain Scale - Revised; 4 years of age and up)
  • A Pain Scale for children (VAS Scale - adapted; 6 - 10 years)
  • A wall chart for waiting rooms

Research coordination

The World Health Organization is happy to announce that the International Children's Palliative Care Network (ICPCN) is willing to coordinate the work on the research agenda as published in annex 5 of the guidelines. The ICPCN will keep a registry of ongoing research and will bring researchers together into larger research projects to improve statistical power of studies.
