Launch of the WHO Pacific Islands Mental Health Network

Port Vila, Vanuatu, 14 March 2007

The Pacific Islands Mental Health Network (PIMHnet) has been officially launched at the Meeting of Pacific Ministers in Vanuatu 12 – 15 March 2007. It took place on Wednesday 14 March 2007.

The programme started with opening remarks by the WHO Western Pacific Regional Director, Dr Shigeru Omi, followed by remarks by a consumer, Mrs Dorah Marcel (Pango Village, Vanuatu), messages from Hon Sir Peter Barter (Minister of Health, Papua New Guinea) and from the donor (New Zealand Aid), as well as messages from Pacific Islands Mental Health Network member countries.

The ceremony closed after the signing of the network logo by all member countries: American Samoa, Australia, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Zealand, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tokelau, Tonga and Vanuatu.
