Meeting of Interested Parties (MIP) 2003
Meetings of Interested Parties are intended primarily to enable Member States and other partners that contribute voluntary resources to the work of WHO to exchange their views and evaluations of the usefulness and productivity of the Organization's work. The annual global Meeting represents an opportunity for parties, both contributors and countries receiving funding, to share views and information, and to discuss technical options, managerial issues, value added by WHO, and financial requirements, for reaching objectives set by the Executive Board and Health Assembly.
Discussions will generally address key issues for cross-cutting themes or areas of work: achievements to date (in the form of progress reports); strategic goals (in the form of issues papers); accountability (in the form of financial reports); and funding needs.
A report on the Meeting will be communicated to the Executive Board, and the views of the Board thereon in turn made available to the subsequent Meeting.
Member States, organizations of the United Nations system and intergovernmental organizations will be invited to participate in the Meetings. Other parties invited to attend, on a more limited basis, may be relevant nongovernmental organizations, donor foundations and private sector partners, or representatives of groups of interested parties. Staff from WHO regional offices and appropriate WHO Representatives will also participate.
This year's Meeting of Interested Parties will be held from 3-7 November. It will take place in the Executive Board Room, at WHO Headquarters, in Geneva, Switzerland. WHO is situated at the end of Avenue Appia on the outskirts of Geneva, about three kilometres from the centre of town, and about one and a half kilometres from the Palais des Nations.
