Report by the Director-General to the 128th session of the Executive Board

The Executive Board opened its 128th session in the morning of 17 January 2011 in Geneva, Switzerland.
In her report, the Director-General, Dr Margaret Chan highlighted recent public health successes and future challenges. Citing progress achieved, Dr Chan also spoke of WHO's strategic policies aimed at simplifying, consolidating, streamlining and integrating control of neglected tropical diseases.
She mentioned the commitments made by the pharmaceutical industry to donate medicines in massive quantities during the launch in October 2010 of the First WHO Report on Neglected Tropical Diseases. Dr Chan said such pledges will enable millions of poor people to receive best-quality medicines.
