Prof. Donald Sloane Shepard
Prof Donald S. Shepard is a health economist at the Schneider Institutes for Health Policy at the Heller School, Brandeis University, Massachusetts USA.
While completing his PhD in Public Policy at Harvard in 1996, he co-authored the paper that coined the acronym QALY (for Quality-Adjusted Life Years), an indicator that has become a standard in cost-effectiveness analysis.
Prof Shepard is the lead author of Analysis of Hospital Costs: a Manual for Managers published by WHO in 2000. He serves regularly on study sections to review grant applications for scientific merit for several international institutions.
