1st IVM stakeholhers meeting: Contribution of IVM in the control of vector borne diseases - The way forward

The main aim is to identify contributions of IVM to vector-borne disease elimination and universal access to interventions. Experts will also discuss implementation and coordinated sharing of information among existing partners to avoid duplication of resources.

Expert Meeting on foodborne trematode (FBT) infections and taeniasis/cysticercosis

Experts will analyse preventive chemotherapy interventions to foodborne trematode infections, and taeniasis/cysticercosis. Discussions will mainly focus on the kind of interventions that can generate rapid benefits through the development of regionally adapted strategies for both human and veterinary public health.

Chagas disease, caused by a parasite transmitted by a blood-sucking insect, affects an estimated 10 million people in the Americas today, and causes over 10 000 deaths every year. In recent years international travel and migration of populations has led to cases in countries such as Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain and the United States.
3rd Joint Meeting on Pesticides Management (JMPM)

The objective is to advise FAO and WHO on policies, guidelines and key actions to support Member States on sound management of pesticides and implementation of the International Code of Conduct on the Distribution and Use of Pesticides.
Workshop: Insecticide Resistance Monitoring
Venue: Hanoi, Viet Nam
Date: 4-9 October, 2009
Participants will train on how to monitor and assess insecticide resistance status of adult mosquitoes, vector of diseases, and changing trends . Training will also be provided on bioassays, sharing of web-based data management and analyses of test results.

Inception meeting of the ddt-gef project in the Africa region
Venue: Harare, Zimbabwe

Discussions will focus on the reduction of malaria burden through optimal use of interventions in context of IVM. WHO has received 3.8 million USD grant from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) to implement a 4-year project in three countries: Eritrea, Ethiopia and Madagascar.
International Public Health Pesticides Workshop
