World Rabies Day

World Rabies Day is held on 28th of September.. The event focuses on the impact of human and animal rabies and provides an opportunity to raise awareness about and promote prevention of the disease by combating it in animals. It is estimated that 40% of people who are bitten by suspect rabid animals are children under 15 years of age.

10th Food and Agriculture Organization and World Health Organization (FAO/WHO) Joint Meeting on Pesticide Specifications
Venue: Landmark Towers Hotel, Beijing, China

Organized in collaboration with the Collaborative International Pesticide Analytical Council (CIPAC) and the Chinese Institute for the Control of AgroChemicals, Ministry of Agriculture (ICAMA), the meeting is expected to review the data package provided by Industry for the development of FAO and WHO specifications for pesticides. The first four days of the meeting (8-11 June 2011) are devoted to the JMPS Closed Meeting in which evaluations and proposed pesticide specifications will be reviewed. This will be followed by JMPS Open Meeting, jointly held with CIPAC. More than 150 scientists, representatives from national pesticide regulatory authorities, from pesticide quality control laboratories and from the pesticide industry are expected to attend the JMPS Open Meeting.

The Carter Center and WHO will be co-hosting the meeting that will bring together 11 countries which are currently either endemic or in the pre-certification stage. The objective is to review progress achieved in 2010 and finalize operational plans for 2011, including support to be provided by various partners to Member States.
