UN General Assembly discussion of WHO report on the status of noncommunicable diseases
Place: New York, USA
Date: 23 November 2010
The UN General Assembly met to discuss a report by WHO Director-General Dr Margaret Chan on the global status of non-communicable diseases, with a particular focus on the development challenges faced by developing countries (document A/65/362). The report says heart disease, strokes, cancer, diabetes and chronic respiratory disease accounted for a large enough share of premature deaths and poverty in low- and middle-income countries so that such non-communicable diseases should be confronted in global development initiatives.
