Noncommunicable diseases and mental health

Development of a framework to promote action across sectors of health and health equity

Resolution WHA67.12 requested the Director-General to “prepare, for the consideration of the Sixty-eighth World Health Assembly, in consultation with Member States, United Nations organizations and other relevant stakeholders as appropriate, and within existing resources, a Framework for Country Action, for adaptation to different contexts, taking into account the Helsinki Statement on Health in All Policies, aimed at supporting national efforts to improve health, ensure health protection, health equity and health systems functioning, including through action across sectors on determinants of health and risk factors of noncommunicable diseases, based on best available knowledge and evidence”.

The consultative process to complete the work on the development of a framework for action is as follows:

– 16 February 2015 – The WHO Secretariat published a first draft Framework for Action for a web-based consultation until 3 March 2015

– Early April – The WHO Secretariat submits a second draft Framework for Action to WHA68

– May 2015 – Member States at the WHA68 will consider the second draft Framework for Action

At this juncture, Member States, UN organizations and other intergovernmental organizations, relevant NGOs and selected private sector entities are invited to share their comments in response to the WHO discussion paper by sending an email before 3 March 2015 to healthpromotion@who.int.

The WHO Secretariat will publish all contributions received by email on this website. All comments submitted are subject to review by the WHO Secretariat prior to the WHO Secretariat posting them on this web site. WHO reserves the right to summarize and/or edit any submission in consultation with the submitting party.
