Call for public comments - Draft WHO Guidelines Sodium and Potassium

The WHO Nutrition Policy and Scientific Advice Unit within the Department of Nutrition for Health and Development (NHD) in cooperation with internal partners is in the process of developing and updating evidence-informed guidelines on sodium and potassium consumption following the newly adopted procedures established in the WHO Handbook for Guideline Development.

According to these procedures, NHD has established the WHO Nutrition Guidance Expert Advisory Group (NUGAG) guided by the WHO Steering Committee for Nutrition Guidelines Development to advise WHO during the guideline development process. Specifically the NUGAG Subgroup on Diet and Health has supported WHO in drafting guidelines on sodium and potassium consumption.

Also consistent with the WHO Handbook for Guideline Development, WHO guidelines shall undergo peer review during development and before the draft is finalized for publication. We are currently inviting interested parties to become members of the External Expert and Stakeholder Panel in order to provide feedback on the following draft guidelines:

  • WHO Guideline: Potassium Intake for Adults and Children
  • WHO Guideline: Sodium Intake for Adults and Children

To participate in this process, we would first like to ask you to complete the registration process following the link below. Part of the registration process is the submission of a signed Declaration of Interests Form and a recent curriculum vitae (resumé). After you have registered and submitted both the signed Declaration of Interests form and the curriculum vitae, you will receive access to the draft guidelines and additional documentation.
