High-level Consultation on Hunger, Food Security and Nutrition

in the Post-2015 Development Agenda

4 April 2013
Madrid, Spain

The high-level meeting in Madrid is the final step in the Global Thematic Consultation on Hunger, Food, Security and Nutrition co-led by FAO and WFP. This is one of 11 Global Thematic Consultations led by the United Nations gathering inputs to shape the post-2015 development agenda.

Even though the world has made progress towards achieving the first MDG of halving the proportion of people who suffer from hunger, there are still 868 million people suffering from food insecurity and malnutrition.

The meeting will build on recommendations and inputs from the previous phases of this Global Thematic Consultation - an online discussion hosted by the Global Forum on Food Security and Nutrition followed by an informal consultation with Committee on World Food Security stakeholders. The outcome will feed into the UN General Assembly discussions beginning in September 2013.

The meeting will bring together global experts, governmental leaders, international organizations, food industries, producers’ organizations, research institutions, civil society and academia.
