Informal meeting to review and develop indicators for complementary feeding

Overview
An informal meeting convened by WHO's Department of Child and Adolescent Health and Development, the Department of Nutrition for Health and Development, and the Regional Office for the Americas was held 3-5 December 2002 at PAHO headquarters in Washington, DC. review
The meeting objectives were to:
- review precise definitions of recommended complementary feeding
- discuss a proposed set of indicators for assessing complementary feeding
- discuss experiences with assessing indicators for infant and young child feeding
- identify indicators that can be endorsed for field validation immediately
- identify areas were research is needed to validate the indicator
- identify existing data sets and opportunities for research and field validation, and
- develop a plan of action for next steps
In addition to WHO participants, the meeting was attended by representative of UNICEF, the United States Agency for International Development and its Cooperating Agencies, nongovernmental organizations, and academic and research institutions.
