Guideline: Optimal timing of cord clamping for improved maternal and infant health and nutrition outcomes

The World Health Organization (WHO) Department of Nutrition for Health in cooperation with other internal partners, is in the process of finalizing updated evidence-informed guidelines on nutrition actions, following the procedures established in the WHO handbook for guideline development.

WHO guidelines undergo review from members of a WHO external expert and stakeholder panel during development and prior to final publication. As part of this process, a draft guideline document is circulated to registered individuals with an interest in the topic for comments.

We would like to invite you to actively participate in this process as part of the WHO external expert and stakeholder panel. At this stage we are seeking comments on the following drafted guidelines:

  • Fortification of food-grade salt with iodine for prevention and control of iodine deficiency disorders
  • Iron supplementation in postpartum women
  • Optimal timing of cord clamping for improved maternal and infant health and nutrition outcomes

To participate in this process, you must complete and sign a Declaration of Interests form and send it, along with a recent curriculum vitae (resume) to the following e-mail address: nutrition@who.int, no later than 22 August 2014.

You will then receive access to the draft guidelines with instructions and timeline for comment. The participation in this process is on an individual capacity and not as a representative of an organization.
