Mr Chapal Khasnabis

Mr Chapal Khasnabis graduated in Prosthetics and Orthotics Engineering from the All India Institute of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Mumbai, India in 1979. Before joining WHO he worked at the National Institute for the Orthopaedically Handicapped where he was Head of the Department of Bio until 1994. During his tenure he started a Diploma/Degree programme in the field of prosthetics and orthotics. He then started a nongovernmental organization called Mobility India – a resource centre on disability and rehabilitation for developing countries especially those in Asia and Africa.
Mr Khasnabis was also the Secretary, and more recently President, of the Indian Society of Prosthetics/Orthotics and Rehabilitation Professionals. He has worked for many international nongovernmental organizations and WHO in Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Viet Nam, Guyana and Sierra Leone. Mr Khasnabis is a Technical Officer in the Disability and Rehabilitation Team (DAR) in the Department of Violence and Injury Prevention and Disability (VIP). His responsibilities include the promotion of Community-based Rehabilitation and assistive devices (especially prosthetics and orthotics devices).
