Summary

The Second International Conference on Nutrition (ICN2) committed to develop coherent public policies to transform current food systems to promote safe and healthy diets. The Global Panel on Agriculture and Food Systems for Nutrition commissioned the Foresight report that takes a close look at the extent to which food systems are delivering healthy diets today and assesses whether they are fit for the future. The Report shows that unless policy makers act decisively to control overweight, obesity and diet-related disease and accelerate efforts to reduce undernutrition, all countries will pay a heavy price in terms of mortality, physical health, mental well-being, economic losses and degradation of the environment.

The report concludes with important recommendations and advice for leaders at the most senior levels in countries and international organizations relating to: public health and well-being, mental health development, education, economic development, urbanization, globalization and demography.
