New and Under-utilized Vaccines Implementation (NUVI)

2nd Global meeting on implementing new and under-utilized vaccines

16 July 2008

Background

The Global meeting on implementing new and under-utilized vaccines is organized by WHO and partners on an annual basis. It serves as a forum for individuals working at global, regional and country levels, both in the private and public sectors, to discuss issues pertaining to the introduction of new and under-utilized vaccines. Following the 2007 meeting, a plan of action relating to new vaccine introduction was developed.

The objectives of this year's meeting were threefold:

  • to review progress in implementing the 2007 plan, and consider how to overcome the challenges encountered;
  • to agree on activities for the next 18 months; and
  • to strengthen networks and partnerships for implementation of these activities.
