Oral Health Technical Meeting
Date: 5-6 November 2015 Place Geneva, Switzerland
A two-day technical meeting on Oral Health took place on November 5th and 6th at WHO Headquarters with representatives from the WHO Collaborating Centres. The meeting focused on integrating oral health into NCD prevention and engaging with HQ activities.
Representatives from the African and American regions discussed the strategies and activities for oral health in the regional offices, and representatives from the various collaborating centres presented their WHO oral health activities.
Participants discussed improved networking possibilities to facilitate communication between centres; the most effective way to conduct oral health surveys; and the importance of common risk factors linked with oral health (e.g. sugar and tobacco). Participants also discussed data issues and advocated the need to work with existing tools, such as the STEPs survey, in order to easily gain baseline information.
They explained the goal to promote oral health globally to support the WHO agenda and the importance of introducing the oral health agenda into general health programs in order to move the agenda forward.
