World Alliance for Patient Safety Day
Moscow, Russian Federation
The World Alliance for Patient Safety Day 2005 took place in Moscow, Russia and brought together over 150 participants from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Baltic countries. Sir Liam Donaldson chaired the event which included technical presentations from the Deputy Minister of Health of the Russian Federation and the leaders of the six programmes of the Alliance. Technical progress made at the European regional level was highlighted with a particular focus on the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Baltic countries.
The Alliance Day meeting was followed by a technical workshop on "Institutionalization of Patient Safety: National and Hospital Perspective" held at the Central Public Health Research Institute in Moscow. The workshop brought together 30 country representatives, senior medical directors from Moscow hospitals and clinics as well as WHO patient safety experts.
The World Alliance for Patient Safety Day is an annual event which aims to report on progress achieved during the last year and to look at new action areas for the year ahead. Its purpose is to raise awareness and catalyse high-level support and commitment to tackle patient safety issues in all parts of the world. Each year, the Alliance Day will take place in a different WHO region. In 2004, the pre-launch Alliance Day took place in Shanghai, the People's Republic of China.
