Patient Safety - Making it happen - The European perspective
A conference entitled "Patient Safety - Making it happen - The European perspective" was held in Luxembourg, 4-5 April 2005 under the auspices of the Luxembourg EU Presidency and the European Commission.
The objectives of the conference were to:
- Identify interests and challenges
- Share best practices and experience
- Sustain and strengthen political momentum
Themes covered include safety in hospitals and primary care, improved adherence to treatment regimes, patient data and IT approaches to improving safety. Successful mechanisms for monitoring and reporting safety issues were explored.
Outcomes of the conference are detailed in the "Luxembourg Declaration on Patient Safety".
The conference was organised by several EPHA members: CPME, PGEU, PCN, EHMA and other health stakeholders which are all committed to making patient safety a priority. The initiative on patient safety will be carried forward as a major theme in the UK Presidency.
