International Patient Safety Summit (IPPS)
This Summit brought together around 400 front line staff from across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to raise awareness and understanding of patient safety in Saudi Arabia. The Summit was organized under the patronage of HRH Prince Naif Bin Abdul Aziz. The meeting comprised plenary presentations in areas such as risk analysis and incident investigation, patient involvement, patient safety indicators, role of leadership, standards and accreditation, medicines safety, and data on safety problems in Saudi Arabia. Dr Gezairy, Regional Director of EMRO, spoke on the efforts of the Regional Office in addressing Patient Safety, Sir Liam Donaldson presented a plenary on behalf of the Alliance.
As a result of the Summit, a set of recommendations was agreed focusing on the establishment of a national centre for patient safety, the establishment of national reporting and adverse event notification systems, strategies to increase awareness of patient safety among frontline staff and national plan for continuing professional education focusing on patient safety.
