Inauguration of the Global Patient Safety Challenge 2005-2006 "Clean Care is Safer Care"

The Global Patient Safety Challenge 2005-2006 was inaugurated in Dhaka on 17 September, 2006 and Dr Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain, Honourable Minister for Health and Family Welfare formally committed Bangladesh’s support to implement actions to reduce health care-associated infection.

The opening speech by A.K.M. Zafar Ullah Khan Secretary, from Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of Bangladesh was followed by keynote speeches by Professor Wing Hong Seto, from the University of Hong Kong, Dr Duangvadee Sungkhobol, WHO Representative to Bangladesh on behalf of Dr Samlee Plianbangchang, Regional Director of WHO SEARO, Professor Md. Shahadat Hossain, Director General of Health Services from the Ministry Health and Family Welfare, and the Minister of Health.

More that 250 participants including ministry of health officials, UN agencies and development partners, professional associations and academics, NGOs, private sector and journalists witnessed the signing ceremony which was followed by a media conference. A technical session on patient safety and infection control in health care followed the inauguration event with the participation of about 150 health care and non-health care professionals and experts in infection prevention and control.
