Patient Safety meeting and inauguration of the Global Patient Safety Challenge 2005-2006
As part of a first national one-day meeting on patient safety in the Republic of Slovenia, State Secretary Mr Dorjan Marusic signed a statement committing the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Slovenia to take action on health care-associated infection as part of the Global Patient Safety Challenge 2005-2006.
More than 300 people witnessed the signing event which was then followed by a media conference.
The patient safety meeting was chaired by Dr Andrej Robida, Chief Medical Officer of the Ministry of the Slovenian Ministry of Health. Participants heard from a variety of international and national speakers on patient safety. Professor Andreas Widmer presented an overview of the Global Patient Safety Challenge. Other speakers represented the Council of Europe, the Slovenian Medical Association, the Nurses and Midwives Association of Slovenia and Adria Airways.
The support of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Slovenia, the Institute of Public Health of the Republic of Slovenia, Medical Chamber of Slovenia, the Council of Europe, WHO, Nurses and Midwives Association of Slovenia and the British Embassy, Ljubljana all helped to ensure that this important meeting will contribute valuable knowledge and momentum to ongoing action on patient safety within Slovenia.
