Seminar on Patient Safety and Inauguration of the Global Patient Safety Challenge "Clean Care is Safer Care"

The First Global Patient Safety Challenge of the World Alliance for Patient Safety was inaugurated in Iceland on February 8th, 2007 during a national seminar on patient safety.

Sir Liam Donaldson, Chair of the WHO Alliance presented a keynote speech on the purpose of and key programmes delivered by the Alliance. The patient safety seminar was chaired by David A. Gunnarsson, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health and Social Security .

Sir Liam participated in the signing of a statement by Minister of Health and Social Security, Siv Friðleifsdóttir, committing Iceland to implement actions to reduce the spread of health care-associated infections. Around 200 participants witnessed the signing event which was followed by a media conference.

The collaboration between the World Alliance for Patient Safety, the Directorate of Health in Iceland, the Ministry of Health and Social Security in Iceland, and the British Embassy in Reykjavik contributed to making this important seminar an event that will provide valuable knowledge and give momentum to ongoing action on patient safety in Iceland.
