National workshop on patient safety and infection control

10 May 2007

As part of the national programme to improve quality of care, patient safety and infection control, a national workshop has been held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia on 10 May 2007. Under the leadership of the Ministry of Health a work plan has been developed to advance the quality and safety of healthcare service delivery by building on the WHO Guidelines on Hand Hygiene in Health Care including the use and local production of the WHO formulation of the alcohol-based handrub solution. The implementation of the WHO guidelines will be tested in three selected hospitals before scaling up nationwide.

To demonstrate commitment to the WHO initiative "Clean Care is Safer Care", the Mongolian Minister of Health, Dr Danzndarjaa Tuya, signed a statement pledging support to address health care-associated infection in her country, thus making Mongolia the sixth country in the Western Pacific Region to have pledged support to this initiative.
