Launch of a Research for Patient Safety project in Central and South America
The World Alliance for Patient Safety programme "Research for Patient Safety" in collaboration with the Spanish National Study on Adverse Effects (ENEAS), the Pan American Health Organization and co-funded by the Spanish Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs, held a meeting in Buenos Aires, 27-31 March 2007. The meeting, inaugurated by the Minister of Health, Argentina, Dr G. González García, was hosted by Argentina for national coordinators for research on patient safety, Ministry of Health officials, epidemiologists, and health professionals from Mexico, Costa Rica, Peru, Colombia and Argentina.
This meeting reviewed the methodology and tools to be used in the “Prevalence of Adverse Events in Hospitals from Latin America Study (IBEAS) and discussed a research project that aims to:
- measure the prevalence of adverse events in selected hospitals of participating countries;
- strengthen capacity on patient safety research in the region;
- raise awareness about patient safety and contribute to set off national agendas for patient safety.
