WHO World Alliance for Patient Safety Second Global Patient Safety Challenge "Safe Surgery Saves Lives"
The Second International Consultation meeting of the Second Global Patient Safety Challenge took place at WHO Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland on 10-11 January 2008. The purpose of the meeting was to introduce the Draft Surgical Safety Checklist to a wide audience.
During the meeting feedback was obtained regarding the use of the checklist as a quality improvement device for surgical safety and the original goals of the Challenge were reviewed, as was the process of creating the checklist. The group also reviewed a set of surgical vital statistics as a measure of the public health impact of surgery.
