25th International Conference International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua)

19-22 October 2008
Copenhagen, Denmark

Once again the World Alliance for Patient Safety participated in the 25th International Conference of the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua) which was held in Copenhagen, Denmark, between 19 and 22 October 2008.

The work of the Alliance was presented in three conference sessions: A session entitled "Better knowledge for safer care: Advancing research for patient safety worldwide with the WHO World Alliance", a session on Patient Safety Solutions chaired by Dr Peter Angood of The Joint Commission and a session focused on the progress of the First Patient Safety Challenge, Clean Care is Safer Care. This was entitled "WHO first global patient safety challenge: An unprecedented momentum for the fight against health care-associated infections".

The Alliance also had a very effective and visually attractive stand, which received a visit from Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary of Denmark. The stand received a lot of interest and positive comments from the conference participants. Over 1,000 copies of the Alliance's technical reports, brochures, CDs and posters were distributed during the event.

As last year, WHO coordinated the ISQua Conference Scholarship Programme. This year twenty candidates, including thirteen women, were nominated to attend. The candidates came from sixteen countries from a range of WHO Regions.
