Here are details of APPS workshops and events taking place throughout Europe and Africa.
Symposium on Patient Safety Partnerships in the United Kingdom
A symposium was held in the United Kingdom on Patient Safety Partnerships. In collaboration with colleagues from the NHS currently participating in WHO’s African Partnerships for Patient Safety, APPS held a one day symposium on the 26 February in Manchester, United Kingdom. The event was open to any colleagues currently participating in a health partnership and addressing or interested in addressing patient safety improvements.
This first Anglophone African Partnership Workshop for the local production of WHO formula alcohol base hand rub (ABHR) took place in Harare, Zimbabwe in March 2013. Two pharmacy representatives from each of the five 'second wave' countries (Ghana, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Zambia), as well as Zimbabwe benefitted from practical hands on training, resulting in an actual supply being produced and quality control tested. Report to follow shortly.
Second wave partnership hospitals workshop
APPS leads from both arms of the partnerships for the second wave of APPS Hospitals attended and were introduced to each other and to key internal WHO staff and partners such as THET.
The focus of this event was on bringing together the established teams from each of the hospitals participating in the first wave, to finalise their two-year partnership plans and prepare for implementation. The official launch of the initiative took place on 22 October 2009.
This was an important milestone for APPS. Representatives from all arms of the programme attended and were introduced both to each other and to key internal WHO staff and partners from the NPSA and THET.
