Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) is located in the Ashanti Region in Ghana. Its location means that its 1 200 beds are accessible to many other regions in the country, as well as neighbouring countries Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso. KATH employs 3 428 staff including 363 doctors and 1 322 nurses, and as the only tertiary hospital in the region, the number of referrals it receives is growing.

St. George’s Hospital in London was founded in 1 733. It has approximately 8 000 staff and over 1 000 beds and is one of the largest teaching hospitals in the country. It treats over 500 000 outpatients annually, delivers over 5 000 babies, and carries out over 90 000 operations. As well as providing acute hospital services, it also provides a wide spectrum of specialist care and community services, recording over half a million community attendances per annum.
