At the meeting, an open briefing session was held where the Chair of the group presented to Member States and other stakeholders a summary of the outcomes of the meeting and where attendees could ask questions to the group.

To ensure transparency in the work of the CEWG, in accordance with resolution WHA 63.28, three open sessions have been held during the 1st meeting of the CEWG.
1. Open Session on 5 April 2011, Tuesday, 9.30 to 15.30, CET.
The first day of the meeting was open to all Member States 3 and other stakeholders from the start of the meeting at 9.30, CET, to the second coffee break at 15:30, CET.

2. Open Forum on 6 April 2011, Wednesday, 9:00 to 18:00, CET
All Member States 4 and other interested stakeholders were invited to a one day Open Forum in the Executive Board (EB) Room at the World Health Organization on Wednesday 6 April 2011.
The purpose of the Open Forum was to enable the CEWG to understand better the perspective of different stakeholders on the issues before it and any additional submissions and proposals.
As part of the Open Forum, the CEWG also invited participants to make a presentation on a specific theme or proposal relevant to the CEWG’s mandate.

The third day of the meeting was for CEWG members only. However, at the conclusion of the meeting at 17:30, CET, the Chair of the CEWG held an Open Briefing Session about the outcomes of the first CEWG meeting and its future plan of work.
On the third day of the 1st meeting of the CEWG (7th April 2011) the Chair and the Vice-Chair of the group used this presentation to guide the discussions within the group. The contents of this presentation include also suggestions from the CEWG members on the scope, process and content of the CEWG’s work.
In the interests of transparency, this provides an indication of the thinking of the CEWG in this closed session, but not its final conclusions. The decisions of the group will be presented separately on this website by the end of April 2011, and in the inception report and work plan of the CEWG which will be presented to the next session of the WHO Executive Board in May 2011.

1 Type I diseases are incident in both rich and poor countries, with large numbers of vulnerable populations in each. Type II diseases are incident in both rich and poor countries, but with a substantial proportion of the cases in poor countries. Type III diseases are those that are overwhelmingly or exclusively incident in developing countries.
