30 November to 01 December 2010, Geneva, Switzerland
On 30 November to 01 December 2010, WHO organized a workshop on Technology Transfer for Local Manufacturing Capacity of Vaccines. The aim of the workshop was to bring together the main players in vaccine technology transfer including industrialized-country vaccine manufacturers, developing country vaccine manufacturers, public-sector vaccine developers, NGOs as well as public health agencies and funding agencies.
The objectives of the workshop were to:
- Review the technology transfers that have taken place in the last decade, and identify emerging trends.
- Identify the conditions that need to be in place in the technology-recipient country and institute to favour successful technology transfer.
- Identify the benefits and drivers for technology transfer from both the technology-donor and technology recipient points of view.
- Discuss through case studies models of technology transfer to identify how different models suit different objectives.
