23 SEPTEMBER 2009 | UN HEADQUARTERS, NEW YORK - At a landmark event at the UN in New York convened by The Partnership , some 300 high-level participants announced an unprecedented array of commitments to save maternal and child lives in developing countries and achieve the internationally-agreed Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) 4 & 5. As well as pledging more than US $5 billion in multi-year funding, leaders committed to a global Consensus for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health.

24 AUGUST 2009 | SANTIAGO, CHILE - A regional consultation brought together several Latin American countries to discuss next steps in their cooperation to save maternal and child lives. The regional consultation brought together representatives from Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador and Paraguay as part of the regional initiative "Actuemos Ya por las Mujeres y los Niños" (Deliver Now for women and children).

14 JULY 2009 | GENEVA - The Board of the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health (PMNCH) has officially announced its new Director to be Dr Flavia Bustreo. Dr Bustreo has worked as Deputy Director of The Partnership since January 2006, and acting Director since March 2009. The announcement was made in a letter to Board members by Joy Phumaphi, chair of the PMNCH Board, who congratulated Dr Bustreo on her appointment: “Flavia has consistently demonstrated extraordinary capacity and commitment in fulfilling her responsibilities.”

10 JULY 2009 | L'AQUILA/GENEVA - The Group of the 8 (G8) annual meeting gathers in Italy the 8 world's most powerful heads of Government. The G8 group's member countries are Canada, the Russian Federation, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States, together with the European Union represented by the European Council's duty President and by the President of the European Commission. 6 JULY 2009 | GENEVA - Several hundred high-level delegates attended the United Nations Economic and Social Council - ECOSOC - in Geneva, with leaders placing a focus on health and much attention to maternal and child health and non-communicable diseases.
