New Interim Chair of The Partnership Board
Dr Julian Schweitzer
Autumn 2009 | GENEVA - The Partnership would like to welcome Dr Julian Schweitzer as Interim Chair of the Board. Dr Schweitzer, currently the Sector Director of Health, Nutrition and Population at the World Bank, has kindly accepted this role until the selection process for a new Chair has been completed. With Dr Schweitzer’s arrival, we bid farewell to Mrs Joy Phumaphi, who chaired the Partnership for the past two years and who will be leaving her position at The World Bank to return to her home country Botswana at the end of October.
The Partnership would like to express its gratitude to Mrs Phumaphi for her dedication and commitment to The Partnership and its work. We would like to thank her for her strong vision and leadership. During her Chairship, we have seen The Partnership’s issue emerge at the forefront of the global agenda - to achieve Millennium Development Goals 4 and 5 and reduce child mortality and improve maternal health. Mrs Phumaphi also brought changes to the structure and function of The Partnership, placing partners at the centre of the collective efforts of the organization.
We are very grateful to Dr Schweitzer for his commitment to The Partnership and his acceptance to serve as Interim Chair. On behalf of The Partnership, we welcome Dr Schweitzer and look forward to continue the work to achieve MDGs 4 and 5 and improve maternal, newborn and child health.
