Plenary I was chaired by Professor Vinod Paul, Professor All India Institute of Medical Sciences, who welcomed the Forum participants and set out the objectives of the Forum. Dr Flavia Bustreo, Director PMNCH, highlighted key elements of the Global Strategy for Women’s and Children’s Health and the need to transform the pledges made at the MDG Summit into action. Professor C. O. Onyebuchi Chukwu, Minister of Health, Nigeria emphasized the need for country led action to achieve the MDGs and the need for mutual accountability of all actors. Purnima Mane, Deputy Executive Director, UNFPA and Daniele Smadja, Head of Delegation in India, European Union emphasized the ongoing support available to countries from multilateral agencies and bodies. Robin Martin Kåss, State Secretary, Ministry of Health and Care Services, Norway launched the Global Campaign Report that features statements by world leaders who explain how they plan to implement their commitments and their approach to holding themselves and others accountable to "ensure that promises made become promises kept.”
