Plenary III Accelerating Action for Women’s and Children’s Health, was chaired by Richard Horton, Editor, The Lancet. In his keynote address, Zulfiqar Bhutta, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, Aga Khan University, Pakistan, set out the heavy burden of morbidity and mortality borne by women and children around the world and the availability of cost-effective interventions that could alleviate this burden. The panelists highlighted experiences from governments, multilateral agencies, health care professional associations and the private sector on successful experiences, promising solutions and challenges in scaling-up programs and policies to achieve results for women’s and children’s health, and emphasized the need for collaborations across sectors, innovation and long-term planning to accelerate and achieve results.
