Dr Elwyn Chomba

Dr Chomba is the first female doctor in Zambia, and has had a distinguished, 35 year medical career which has focused on maternal and child survival, rural medicine, and the care of underserved populations. Her work has focused on the provision of frontline care for women and children both in hospital and community settings in Zambia

Dr Chomba’s career has included several senior positions in the Zambian Health system culminating in her appointment in October 2011 as Permanent Secretary in a new re-aligned Ministry of Community Development, Mother and Child Health with a whole purpose of accelerating maternal and child survival to meet the goals of MDG 4 and 5.

Dr Chomba brings a wealth of country level knowledge and technical expertise to the Board, particularly in her new, senior Governmental role. She also is a compelling advocate for RMNCH, given her status as a senior, African, female leader in clinical medicine and health policy.
