17 December 2009 | Amman, Jordan - Nearly 90 representatives of health care professional associations (HCPAs), Ministries of Health and development agencies from Iraq, Jordan, Morocco, Palestine, Somalia, Sudan, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen gathered in Amman to take part in a workshop on the role of HCPAs in achieving MDGs 4 and 5. The Amman workshop -- the fourth in a series of multi-country workshops held in various regions throughout the world -- was organized by the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health in collaboration with the Arab Association of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

The principle objective of the three day workshop was strengthening the role of health care professional associations in maternal, newborn and child health planning. The workshop format included the sharing of best practices in the areas of advocacy, planning, quality improvement, human resources and organizational strengthening; and the development of country action plans to guide joint HCPA activities across the continuum of care in the next 1-2 years.
