Innovation Working Group Meeting, 25 April 2012

25 APRIL 2012 | NEW YORK - The Innovation Working Group (IWG) met for the first time on 25 April in New York, hosted by Columbia University with remote participation from London, Geneva and other locations. IWG Task Forces presented work in the areas of checklists, medical devices, sustainable business models and innovative financing.

In addition to the presentations from the working groups, the pre-publication Private Sector Engagement Guide in support of Every Woman Every Child was presented: “Private enterprise, public health”. The Guide seeks to support the private sector in identifying effective efforts to improve women’s and children’s health.

Examples of innovative scale-up PPP projects were presented, as well as a discussion about how to use innovation and the IWG to take to scale more initiatives, and contribute to the success of current ones, in particular the commission on life saving commodities, the family planning and child survival summits and events under the Every Woman Every Child effort. There was an engaging debate and broad agreement on next steps for the IWG, which include testing the recommendations and the potential for scaling-up innovations in countries, which will be the focus of the IWG strategy for 2012/2013.
