Burkina Faso is one of the many countries in west and central Africa that has committed to 'Vision 2010'. This initiative, which was launched by the First Ladies of west and central African countries, has as a goal the reduction of maternal, newborn and child mortality. Burkina, one of the signatories of the vision has established a 'comité de suivi des programmes et interventions en faveur de la mère et de l’enfant'. The ministry of health has also adopted a national plan for the reduction of maternal and neonatal mortality (Road Map) and the child survival strategy
