Women leaders meet for mothers initiative

HM Queen Rania Al Abdullah, Mrs Sarah Brown, wife of UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Mrs Wendi Murdoch, hosted a dinner exclusively for women from across the globe, from the areas of politics, business and non-profit and charitable sectors to raise the issue of maternal mortality.

To date the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) 5, which aims to reduce maternal mortality by 75% by 2015 has seen little progress. The women urged the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon and global leaders to renew their commitments and accelerate action to achieving this goal at the high level meeting to be held the next day to review progress to these goals.

This event followed a successful dinner on the same issue in Davos at the World Economic Forum in February 2008 hosted by Queen Rania, Wendi Murdoch and Indra Nooyi.
