International Development: Scrutinising aid effectiveness
Houses of Parliament, London UK - A unique International Parliamentary Conference on International Development will take place on 17-21 November 2008 at the Houses of Parliament, Westminster.
Over 100 Members of Parliament from Commonwealth and non-Commonwealth legislatures, UK parliamentarians and observers from NGOs and Civil Society organisations will attend the Conference to address how parliamentarians can better hold their Executives to account on the issue of scrutinising aid effectiveness.
High profile speakers include: Mr Michael Foster MP (Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department for International Development, UK), HE Mr Kamalesh Sharma (Commonwealth Secretary-General), Ms Janet Entwistle (Senior Operations Officer, World Bank), Rt Hon. Malcolm Bruce MP (Chairman, International Development Committee, UK), Mr Peter Power TD (Minister of State for International Development, Department of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Ireland), Hon. Anne Makinda MP (Deputy Speaker, Government of Tanzania and East Africa Representative to the Executive Committee of the African Parliamentarians Poverty Reduction Network), Ms Mary King (Interim Chair, Caribbean Chapter of the Global Organisation of Parliamentarians Against Corruption, Trinidad and Tobago), Mr Nick Roseveare MBE (Chief Executive, British Overseas NGOs for Development, UK) and Ms Osnat Lubrani (Director, UNIFEM, Brussels).
