Commitment to Progress for Mothers, Newborns and Children

A key Side-event to the High-level Event on the Millennium Development Goals focused on achieving the maternal and child goals - MDGs 4 and 5. The session , "Commitment to Progress for Mothers, Newborn and Children" was hosted by the Presidents of Chile, Finland and Tanzania and succeeded in drawing out pledges and commitments to action for MDGs 4 & 5 from many world leaders.

Major pledges

A full list of the Commitments from the meeting can be found in the Commitments Document below. Pledges included donor and developing countries, including Australia, Brazil, Chile, , Finland, German, Mozambique, Netherlands, Norway, Tanzania, United Kingdom and the United States. Multi-lateral organizations, non-governmental organizations, foundations and companies also made significant commitments: Family Care International, Johnson and Johnson, MacArthur Foundation, UNFPA; UNICEF; WHO, World Bank, White Ribbon Alliance and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.

"Commitment to Progress for Mothers, Newborns and Children" - provides a platform for a wide range of stakeholders to inspire future initiatives and make commitments to accelerate progress on MDGs 4 and 5 and provide inputs to the UN High Level Event on the MDGs.
