11-13 AUGUST 2009 | BALI - The Bi-regional Consultation on the Application of Socio-cultural Approaches to Accelerate the Achievement of MDGs 4 and 5, organized by WHO's South Asia Regional Office, took place in Bali on 11-13 August.

The objectives of the meeting were to agree on the strategic framework for the application of a socio-cultural approach for accelerating the reduction of maternal and neonatal mortality through primary health care, to review the draft strategic framework for the application of a socio-cultural approach for accelerating the reduction of maternal and neonatal mortality, to apprise on the guideline on empowering women, families and communities in key issues surrounding maternal and neonatal health, and to facilitate establishment of an Asia-Pacific network for addressing the socio-cultural aspects of maternal and neonatal health.

The Asia-Pacific investment case for MNCH in the region was presented by the MNCH Network, including Dr. Flavia Bustreo, Director of the Secretariat for the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health and Dr Ian Anderson, Asian Development Bank.
