UNFPA, together with the ICM, WHO, GHWA, JHPIEGO, FIGO, UNICEF and the World Bank, are organizing a global one and a half day Symposium on Strengthening Midwifery immediately preceding Women Deliver, 5-6 June 2010. The main objectives are: to raise awareness around the core role of midwifery services in achieving MDGs 4, 5 and 6; address the challenges in global standards on education and regulation of midwives; and to produce a joint statement on the need to strengthen midwifery services in order to achieve MDG5 in particular. The Symposium will be held at the Washington Convention Center.
