Rome 18 June 2008 - Wednesday evening 18 June, the showroom of the Palazzo Massimo Lancellotti, headquarters of Christie's in Rome, in Piazza Navona was the site of unusual and ground-breaking auction: the sale of 38 works of art from the Art for Health collection -- original paintings which are the creation of Italian artist, Elisabetta Farina. Art for Health is an awareness raising project focussing on women's sexual and reproductive health.

EUR 34 400 was raised by the sale of the A4H Collection. In all, 38 paintings sold for prices that ranged between EUR200 and EUR2500.A wide range of participants attended the auction: from personalities in the health and political arena, diplomatic representatives such as the Ambassador of Honduras to renowned Italian TV journalists and heads of prominent corporations based in Italy.

Senator Ignazio Marino, the President of Imagine Onlus, opened the auction by thanking Christie's and the people present for attending the event. The Senator read to the audience a message from Sarah Brown, First lady of the UK, patron of the White Ribbon Alliance.

In her statement, Mrs Brown reminded the audience about the great opportunities which 2008 has brought to advocate for Maternal and Child Health at the highest political level. Mrs. Brown stressed the importance of the role which the arts community can play.

Ms Clarice Pecori Giraldi, Director of Christie's Italia opened the auction by selling a 40x40cm canvas of the portrait of an Algerian woman. The EUR 34 400 raised at the auction will be used for a health project, a mobile boat clinic for the Mosquitia region of Honduras implemented by the Italian non-governmental organization, Imagine Onlus.
